Send us your photos and we will do the rest.
Photographs of your own finished work are the single most valuable thing you can give us for your website. Nobody else has them, nobody can copy them, and they are what makes a page look like your business rather than a template. This page says exactly which ones to take and where to send them.
Ten minutes on your phone is usually enough. We handle the cropping, the sizing and getting them on the site.
What should I actually photograph?
Six kinds of picture do almost all the work on a website. Take a few of each when you get the chance, and there is no need to save them up for a perfect day.
Finished work, up close
The thing you were paid to do, photographed when it is done and tidied up. Get close enough that somebody can see the standard of the finish.
These are the pictures that go on your service pages, so a few of each service is ideal.
Before and after, as a pair
Take the before shot from the same spot as the after one, standing in the same place. A pair like that says more about your work than a paragraph ever will.
The before shot is the one everybody forgets, so take it as you arrive.
You, and anybody who works with you
One decent picture of the person who actually turns up. It does not need to be posed, and working clothes are better than a suit.
People want to know who is coming to their house. This is the picture that answers it.
Your vehicle, if it is signwritten
A clean shot of the signwriting, ideally somewhere that is not a hedge. It is the most recognisable thing most local businesses own.
If it is not signwritten yet, skip this one and come back to it.
Where you work from
The shop, the salon, the practice, the yard or the unit, photographed from the outside and from inside if customers come in.
If you work out of a vehicle rather than a premises, card 04 covers it and this one does not apply.
Anything you are proud of
The job you still talk about. The one that went wrong and came out right. The bit of the work nobody ever sees once it is finished.
Send it even if you cannot think where it would go. Those are often the best ones.
Where do I send them?
Straight up this page, from the phone they are on. Open the link we sent you and your code fills itself in. Send two or three at a time and they land with us as they are, at full size, with nothing to shrink or crop first.
Three things that make it easy for both of us
If a customer's home, face or number plate is in a picture, check they are happy with it going on your website. Ask before you send it.
What makes a photo work on a website?
Four things separate a picture that sells the job from one that sits there. None of them needs a camera, and all four are things you can do on the way out.
- Let the light in. Open the curtains, put the lights on, and stand so the window is behind you rather than behind the work. A bright picture always beats a clever one.
- Tidy the frame first. Move the tools, the cups and the packaging out of shot. Ten seconds of tidying is the single biggest improvement you can make.
- Hold the phone level, and landscape. Turn it sideways for anything going across a page. Portrait is fine for one tall thing, and landscape fits a website better.
- Take three, not one. One step closer, one step back, one from the side. It costs nothing and it means we can pick the one that fits the space.
Do not worry about editing any of it. Sending them exactly as your phone took them is what we want.
What happens once I have sent them?
We crop them, size them properly for a phone and a desktop, and put them where they belong on your pages. Every one gets a written description behind it, so a blind visitor and a search engine both know what is in the picture.
You keep the originals and you keep the copyright. They are your pictures of your work, and if you ever leave they go with you along with everything else.
If you would rather not take them at all, we come out and shoot them for you. That is £250 for a full day, and it covers the shoot, the editing, the files and putting them on the site.
What else is worth reading?
Every page here answers one question properly rather than skimming five. These are the others, and each one says what it is before you click it.
