This explains what we do with personal information at Foothold AI, in plain words. If anything here is unclear, ask and we will make it clearer.
Who we are
Foothold AI builds websites, back office systems and AI for businesses in the UK. We are a sole trader, and we are the data controller for the information described on this page.

What this website collects, and only if you allow it
Nothing is collected until you choose to allow it. When you first arrive you are asked, and until you answer, nothing loads and nothing is stored on your device.
If you agree, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get read, so we can work out which are useful. It tells us how the site is used, not who you are, and your IP address is anonymised. Google also processes that information under its own terms. If you say no, none of it loads at all, and you can change your mind any time using the "Cookie preferences" link at the bottom of any page. Full detail is in our cookie policy.
There is no form on this site and no advertising tracking.
Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server logs in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse. That is a normal part of putting anything on the internet.
If you enquire about working with us
When you contact us, or fill in one of our enquiry forms, we collect what you choose to tell us. Usually that is your name, business name, email address, phone number, your trade or service, the area you work in, and whatever you tell us about what you are trying to do.
| Why we use it | Our lawful basis |
|---|---|
| To reply to you and answer your question | Legitimate interests: you asked us something and expect an answer |
| To prepare a quote or a proposal | Steps taken at your request before entering a contract |
| To provide the services once you are a client, and to invoice you | Performance of our contract with you |
| To keep records we are required to keep, such as for tax | Legal obligation |
We do not sell your information, we do not share it for anyone else's marketing, and we will not add you to a mailing list because you asked us a question.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of well-known services to run the business. They only process information on our instructions.
- Google, our enquiry forms, the spreadsheets they feed, and our email.
- Netlify, hosting for this website.
- Supabase, the database behind the systems we build.
Some of these may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, it is done under the safeguards those providers have in place for international transfers.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become work: up to two years, then deleted.
- Client records: for as long as we work together, and then for as long as we are required to keep records for tax and accounting.
When we look after a client's customer data
When we build and run a system for a client, their customers' information belongs to that client. They decide what happens to it and we act on their instructions, under a written agreement. If you are a customer of a business we have built for, their privacy notice applies, not this one.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, or object to us using it. Email hello@footholdai.co.uk and we will reply within one month. There is no charge.
If you are not happy with how we have handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Our ICO registration. Registration with the Information Commissioner's Office is in progress, and the number will be published on this page the day it is issued.
