What we use, and only if you agree
Nothing is set until you choose to allow it. When you first arrive you are asked, and until you answer, no analytics and no third-party script loads at all. Rejecting is one click and it is the same size button as accepting.
Strictly necessary
None. This site needs no cookie in order to work, so there is nothing in this category and nothing you have to accept.
Analytics, only if you say yes
If you allow it, we load Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Google Analytics counts visits and tells us which pages get read. Clarity records how a page was used, so we can see where somebody got stuck or gave up. Both are third parties and both also process that data under their own terms. Neither loads at all until you say yes, and if you say no, or say nothing, neither is even requested.
Microsoft publishes a duration for neither of the two it sets on this site, so no figure is invented here. Clearing your cookies removes them, and rejecting through the link at the foot of any page tells Clarity to delete them.

We do not run advertising cookies on this site. Microsoft Clarity is capable of setting them and we have switched that off deliberately, so the advertising cookies it can set are not set here. If that ever changes, this page will list them and the banner will ask you about them separately from analytics.
Changing your mind
Click "Cookie preferences" at the bottom of any page. Withdrawing permission is exactly as easy as giving it, which is what the rules require and what we would want ourselves.
The one thing that does happen
Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server logs so the site can be served and protected from attack. That is not a cookie and it is not used to build a profile of you. It is the same thing that happens when you visit any website anywhere.
If this ever changes
We may add analytics at some point, so we can see which pages are useful. If we do, this page will be updated first, and anything that is not strictly necessary will ask your permission before it loads. Not after. Not buried in a pre-ticked box.
If we ever do run something that needs consent, withdrawing it will be exactly as easy as giving it, because that is what the rules require and it is also just decent behaviour.
Why we mention this at all. We build websites for other businesses, and we hold our own site to exactly the standard we apply to yours.
